Child and Family Services Committee

Committee Charges

  1. A.  The committee will identify child welfare work groups and actively work with our state partners to be assure CFS representation in the development of the implementation plans for various initiatives and developing programs to include:
    • Child Fatality- report released for 2010 shows significant increases in child fatalities
    • Prevention
    • Liaison on Legis. Committee
    • CPS appeals
    • QSR
    • Subsidy Assistance – memo for moving this forward is on Comm. desk
    B.  The Committee will monitor the progress of the following committees or programs and report concerns or significant issues to the VLSSE:
    • SDM
    • Fam. Engagement – training up-coming for DSS attorneys and GALS as well as counsel for parents
    • VEMAT
    • Treatment Foster Care – budget amendment issue
    • IL
    • SW Title Protection (personnel comm. is lead)
  2. As a continuous quality improvement effort, the committee will work with our state partners to establish a more effective communication system regarding child welfare practice so that modifications to guidance is shared consistently statewide which may include:
    • a system of posting questions/responses from local agencies
    • FAQs
    • Turnaround Documents
    • Summary of appeal decisions
  3. CFS committee will keep apprised of potential legislation that could impact child family services and establish appropriate ad-hoc work groups based on exec. Comm. approval
